Tongue and Lip Tie Support, Phoenix AZ

A tongue tie or lip tie happens when the tissue under the tongue or upper lip is too tight or thick. This limits your baby’s ability to move their tongue or flange their lips.

Signs of a tongue or lip tie might include difficulty latching, clicking sounds while feeding, a shallow latch, or a baby who seems fussy or tired during feeds.

And you might notice symptoms too, like sore or pinched nipples or concerns about your milk supply.

What the functional oral assessment looks like

During a functional oral assessment, I’ll take a close look at what might be making feeding difficult for your baby.

My approach is gentle, thorough, and designed to give you clarity and support.

Here’s what we’ll do:

  • Check tongue and lip movements: I’ll look at how your baby’s tongue and lips move to see if any restrictions could be causing discomfort.

  • Teach simple exercises: If needed, I’ll show you gentle oral exercises to help strengthen your baby’s tongue and relax their facial muscles.

  • Recommend trusted specialists: If a tongue or lip tie is suspected, I will talk you through it and connect you with experienced providers who can diagnose and treat it.

Support your journey: Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, or bottle feeding, I’ll guide you with advice tailored to your baby’s needs.

“I started seeing Nikki the beginning of August 24’ my little who was only a couple weeks old was having a hard time with a good latch and after seeing Nikki we decided it was a good idea to get her tongue/lip tie released and it made a world of difference. I was ready to give up the idea of feeding on the boob but we tried to get her to latch again for another week and after nearly two months with the help and amazing support of Nikki we were able to go from bottle all day everyday to exclusively feeding on the breast without pain! I would 100% recommend Gentle Touch Lactation for anyone wanting and needing a supportive person to walk you through this journey!”
